DARPA Avatar Project PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 21 February 2012
Over the years, there has been significant interest in developing robots that would be used as substitutes for live-action soldiers. In fact, even DARPA has currently pursuing a robotic project called the Avatar, in which they are developing bi-pedal robots that are remotely controlled by soldiers at safe distance.

Apparently, DARPA has already allocated $7 million in funds over its massive $2.8 billion 2012 budget, in which the funds would be used to startup their ‘Avatar program’. It seems that DARPA would be developing interfaces and algorithms that would be ultimately used to control semi-autonomous bi-pedal machines. Also, the robots would be specifically designed to clear rooms, facilitate sentry control, and combat casualty recovery. Perhaps well be seeing more of Terminator’s Judgment day after all?
