Let’s face it – the video rental business is just plain bad business in the 21st century. Clearly, anyone with an internet connection can stream high quality videos online, and nobody would want to head to the nearest video rental store to grab the latest movies. Nevertheless, it also seems that Dish Network’s Blockbuster project has come to a halt, and the company plans to close more of their brick-and-mortar stores this year.
Dish Network CEO Joe Clayton confirmed the company’s plan to shutter more stores, as most of these stores aren’t turning in a profit. And as for the remaining stores that survive the onslaught, these stores would be converted into Dish customer service outlets. Back in July, Dish announced their mega plan to open 1,500 of such stores, but surely, their plans are now somewhat derailed, as the response from consumers isn’t up to par.
