OLED is one of the most viable alternatives to the LCD technology, and with the market churning out so many smartphones which utilize the OLED technology, apparently the high demand has created a shortage for the OLED panels. iSuppli has mentioned that the market is already short on the OLED panels, whereby smartphone makers might need to restrict their production, as clearly, there aren’t enough panels to go around.
On the other hand, it also seems that Samsung’s AMOLED panels are also headed for a worldwide shortage, whereby smartphone makers are also purchasing these panels at a large rate. According to Samsung, the company will bring its $2.2 billion AMOLED facility online by 2012, but I don’t think that the market can wait until then.
Did you just buy a OLED or AMOLED electronics recently?
